See the difference between crops under trees or stumps and the one that is in good conditions

Image
We all know that crops under trees or stumps always grown less well, this is telling us that the need to clear and grub out stumps in our field is necessary before anything, if you really want to harvest better,  and avoid brush fire after cleared all the field.

Example of how to use a winch and clear your field

We have learnt what is winch and why we should use it, we also learnt how to use it properly and clear our field. Here are some pictures taken while clearing and grubbing out stumps in the field, demonstrating how best you can use it.

Conserving and improving the soil

Soil must be protected against erosion, when a field is cultivated, the soil is often left bare, when it rains very hard, the water flows fast and carries away the good soil, (this is erosion). The soil becomes less fertile and afterwards the harvest are less good. When the ground is on a slope, that is on contour line, by this means the water will not flow so fast and the good soil will no carried away. When the slope is steep, Terrence farming is used. You will build little wall of earth or stone to hold back the good soil. In some mountainous region there is a lot of terrace farming. However, if the slope is not too steep, you can make a ditches along the contour lines, or barrier strips or ridges.

Nigerians are happy to begin harvesting of their Maize which is one of the top and affordable food in the country

How to grub out trees and stumps

As a modern farmer grubbing out the trees and the stumps is very important, we have read it that around the trees and the stumps the crops will grow less well, because they are taking food from the soil, There are so many ways to remove stumps and the trees, using tractor can be a great way, but that costs a lot and most farmers have no tractor. You can also pull out trees and their stumps with Winch, this is  a machine that has a rope or chain and that is used for pulling or lifting heavy things. Fix the winch to a big strong tree and tie the cable of the winch to the tree you want to pull then turn the winch until the cable pull out the trees, the stumps and all.  A winch does not cost much, the farmers in a village can join together to buy a winch, then they can quickly clear all the fields of the village. You can also grub out trees and stumps with hand tools, take away the soil round the base of the tree so as to uncover the roots, finally, with a rope pull down...

Clearing lands and grubbing out trees in a modern way

A modern farmer realized that using little tools like machete and hoe only are not  enough for the well meaning farming, because if he wants to harvest better he must clear his field and grub out trees, even the biggest trees need to be grubbed out, these hard working exceed the power of machete and hoe. Using animal power is one of the greatest and modern way of farming, a modern farmer who uses animal power must clear and grub out the trees, he must get out the tree stumps. If he doesn't remove the stumps: his tools (his hoe and Plaugh ) will get bent on the big root, he will not be able to sow in raws, he will not be able to use an animal-drawn cultivator, the stumps and trees will go on taking food from the soil, around the stumps and trees the crops will grow less well.

This is how African farmers clear their lands

Many African farmers are poor and do not know how to clear their lands in a modern way. African farmers work with only few tools, they use only a Machete and a Hoe, they cut the trees and the herbage with the machete and scratches the soil a little with the hoe. The African farmers clear their Land a little cut down the herbage and small trees, make a brush fire and sow. This could be dangerous to the land and can destroy the soil quickly. THE EFFECTS 1. The brush fire spoil the soil and destroy the organic matter. 2. Using only machete and hoe is not enough to turn over the soil. 3. If the soil is not well turn over the water and air couldn't get well into the soil then plants would remain undenourshed. 4. At the end the soil would stays poor and yields a small harvest
